Keepsake Stocking

Steps:2
This homespun stocking is a wonderful way to mark a first Christmas -- as well as his second, third, and fourth. Every year, add a new felt shape representing some favorite memory or object that your little one loves. Only the stocking requires sewing; the designs are glued on, for easy updating.
Materials
  • Stocking templates
  • Felt pieces
  • Pinking shears
  • Sewing kit

Water-Bottle Cozy

Steps:4
Other Ideas:
Materials, Good Things, Sewing
Whether it's chilly inside or out, a hot-water bottle slipped into a soft cloth cover is a classic comfort. The covers are small enough to sew with wool remnants and larger scraps. The cozy pictured was made for a two-quart water bottle from two fabrics, but you could also sew one with a single fabric.
Materials
  • Clear tape
  • 1/2 yard wool fabric in 2 colors
  • Seam binding
  • Sewing machine and sewing supplies
  • Iron
  • 2-quart hot-water bottle
  • Cozy Template

All Dressed Up: Flower Bouquet

Steps:2
Make a sunny bundle of daisies, tulips, and sunflowers. These friends (from left), Sophia, age 8, Emily, 7, Angelika, 7, and Sarah, 7, wear felt-petal collars and pollen headdresses topped with stickers. Velour dresses and bright tights bring it all together without a single stitch.
Materials
  • 28-gauge floral wire
  • Headband
  • Fusible web
  • Iron
  • Felt
  • Fabric glue
