Brooch Ribbon Necklace

Steps:3
Treat your sisters and girlfriends (and yourself) to jewelry that shimmers with style. Start with a handful of inexpensive costume pieces -- brooches and earrings with openwork designs -- and give them a new-old coppery patina using spray paint. Then link them together and add pretty pink ribbon. No one will guess you didn't break the bank.
Materials
  • Costume brooches (we used 6, about 2 inches wide) or earrings (we used about 5 pairs, 3/4 inch to 1 1/2 inches wide) with openwork designs, from Bijoux Way
  • Wire cutters
  • Sandpaper
  • Clear nail polish (optional)
  • Copper spray paint
  • Paper towels
  • 1/4-inch jump rings
  • Needlenose pliers
  • 1 1/2-inch-wide silk ribbon, cut into two 24-inch lengths

Star-Spangled Style: American Flag-Inspired Ribbon Pins

Steps:3
For a nice nod to the American flag on the Fourth of July, add a star-shaped ribbon pin to your clothes, bag, or sun hat. Choose ribbon that’s not too flimsy in the desired width (the thinner the ribbon, the smaller the star will be). For a large star, cut a 30-inch length of ribbon; for a tiny one, no more than a foot.
Materials
  • Ribbon, such as grosgrain
  • Pin backs, 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, or 1 inch, depending on desired star size (available at crafts stores)
  • Hot-glue gun

Polymer Clay Bead Necklace

Steps:5
Just about anything can be used to mold polymer clay, including the mini tart tins that formed the beads of this necklace. Big enough to make a statement, the bib-style design has ribbon ties that adjust to suit the neckline of any outfit.
Materials
  • 4 large and 3 small polymer clay beads
  • Scrap paper
  • Faux-suede fabric
  • Glue
  • Needle and embroidery ribbon
  • Jump rings
  • 1/2-inch cotton taffeta mesh ribbon
