Water-Bottle Cozy

Whether it's chilly inside or out, a hot-water bottle slipped into a soft cloth cover is a classic comfort. The covers are small enough to sew with wool remnants and larger scraps. The cozy pictured was made for a two-quart water bottle from two fabrics, but you could also sew one with a single fabric.

Tools and Materials

  • Clear tape
  • 1/2 yard wool fabric in 2 colors
  • Seam binding
  • Sewing machine and sewing supplies
  • Iron
  • 2-quart hot-water bottle
  • Cozy Template

Water-Bottle Cozy How-To
1. Print the pattern pieces, and tape together. Cut out front-bottom piece and back piece from 1 of the wool fabrics; cut out front-top piece from another fabric.

2. Fold seam binding over the straight edges of the front pieces; stitch in place, 1/8 inch from edge. Lay front-top piece right side up, and fold straight edge up 1 inch. Press.

3. Align back piece and 2 front pieces, right sides facing, so that front-bottom piece overlaps front-top piece slightly. Pin and stitch around the perimeter with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Notch curves on both sides of neck.

4. Turn right side out, and press flat. Slip hot-water bottle through front flap.
