Wallpapered Glass Coasters

You can appreciate vintage wallpaper without hanging it on your walls: Simply use scraps of your favorite paper to decorate glass coasters. Have a local glazier cut and sand 1/4-inch-thick glass into 3 1/2-inch squares. Use clear-drying decoupage glue, such as Mod Podge, to affix a paper scrap to the bottom of each coaster. Look for beautiful old wallpaper at tag sales or stores that specialize in vintage wall coverings. You can also use decorative paper for this project.

1. Using a paintbrush, coat one side of glass with decoupage glue, such as Mod Podge. Place glass onto wallpaper scrap, pattern-side up. If there is a motif, be sure to center it on the glass.

2. Turn the coaster over, and smooth the paper with your fingertips. Be sure to rub firmly on the edges. If the paper isn't too fragile, use a bone folder to smooth.

3. Using a sharp utility knife, cut off excess paper around the edges of the coaster.

4. To seal the bottom of the coaster, apply one to two more coats of decoupage glue to paper. Allow coaster to dry for a few hours.

5. To protect surfaces from getting scratched, attach felt dots to the corners of the coaster's underside.
