In these times of economic uncertainty, animal shelters and rescue groups are overflowing with loving companion pets in need of good homes. In an effort to help our furry friends, the Purina ONE Tour for Heroes recently completed a successful cross-country tour of animal shelters.
At each stop on the 5,000-mile tour, a temporary food bank aided pet owners in need, and volunteers matched local adoptable animals with new families. In total, nearly 200 shelter animals found permanent homes.
As the world's largest no-kill animal shelter, North Shore Animal League in Long Island, New York, was the mobile unit's final destination. Home to up to 20,000 pets in need of loving homes at any given time, this top-notch facility provides medical care and behavior evaluations for all adoptable animals to ensure the best possible pet-person match.
Check back after the show's airdate for an inspiring video of the Tour for Heroes mobile unit in action.
