These hoodie costumes are perfect for kids who love "scary" animals, such as sharks and bats.

Shark How-To
1. Print the shark template on heavyweight paper. Cut out paper templates. Trace eye, teeth, and nostril templates onto felt that coordinates with the colors of the template, and cut pieces from felt. Trace fin onto a piece of gray industrial felt, and cut out.
Tip: Use double-sided tape to temporarily hold templates onto felt as you trace.

2. Assemble the felt eyes and glue them onto the top of the hood, toward the front. Glue nostrils to the top center of the hood, within the hem. Glue teeth to the inside edge of the hood, starting in the center and going out to make sure they are aligned properly.

3. Poke holes about 1/8-inch apart along the straight edge of the industrial felt fin with an awl or a small drill bit. Sew the fin onto the back of the hoodie with embroidery thread, threading the needle through the holes you have created.

4. To create gills, draw diagonal lines of glue on the INSIDE of the hood, originating from the center seam in the back of the hood. Pinch and hold the OUTSIDE of the hood over the glue lines to form wrinkles.

Bat How-To
1. Print bat feature templates on heavyweight paper. Cut out paper templates. Trace templates onto felt that coordinates with the colors of the template, and cut pieces from felt.
Tip: Use double-sided tape to temporarily hold templates onto felt as you trace.

2. Enlarge bat wing template 200 percent and trace twice onto black felt. Cut two bat wings from black felt.
Note: The templates provided are for a size 8 youth hoodie from American Apparel. You may need to enlarge or reduce the template to suit the size of hoodie you are using.

3. To make ears, fold a black pipe cleaner to create a triangle with 5 1/2-inch sides (use more than one pipe cleaner if necessary). Twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together to complete triangle. Fit the pipe cleaner triangle to the edges of the felt "inside" ear piece, and glue together. Glue the "outside" ear piece to the felt within the triangle. Bend the base of the triangle into a small arc to create the shape of an ear.

4. Attach ears to the hoodie with fabric glue.

5. Assemble felt eyes and nose as shown in the template. Attach to hoodie with fabric glue.

6. Glue teeth to top inside of hood.

7. To create nose wrinkles, draw diagonal lines of glue originating from the top center of the nose on the inside of the hood. Pinch and hold the outside of the hood over the glue lines to form wrinkles.

8. Glue straight sides of bat wings along side seam and bottom arm seam of hoodie, on both sides.
