For many of us, gearing up for the summer means pulling out old lawn chairs and other patio furniture. If your outdoor furniture is looking old and rusty, follow these simple steps to restore it to its former luster. Depending on the condition of the furniture, this project can take up to two days to complete.

Tools and Materials
Drop cloths
Paintbrush
Scraping tools, such as coarse steel wool, emery paper, or a drill with a wire brush
Rust-Oleum metal primer
Rust-Oleum paint (we used Seaside Green)

Restoring Outdoor Chairs How-To
1. Remove the seat of the rusted chair.

2. Remove rust with either a drill with wire brush, coarse steel wool, or coarse emery paper

3. Prime chairs with Rust-Oleum metal primer. Make sure corners and edges are adequately covered. Let dry for at least one hour before painting.

4. Apply one coat of Rust-Oleum paint in a color of your choice. Spray outside and cover nearby objects to protect them from spray mist.

5. After one hour, apply a second coat and let dry for 48 hours.

6. Once the paint is dry, replace the seat.
