Teaching your children where and how they get their food will encourage them to choose the right foods as they get older. Try planting tomatoes in containers with your children; it's a perfect way to get them interested in growing their own food.

Tools and Materials
Tomato plant
Container with drainage holes
Potting soil
Eggshells
Ziploc bag
Hand trowel
Herbs (optional)

Planting Tomatoes How-To
1. When planting tomatoes, make sure your container has drainage holes. Fill the container with potting mix, such as Miracle Gro Organic Choice Potting Mix, which contains an exclusive mix of all-natural organic ingredients and feeds your plants for up to two months.

2. Crush eggshells in a Ziploc bag (eggshells provide sulphur to plants to prevent end rot).

3. Dig hole in the potting soil for your plant and sprinkle the crushed eggshells at the bottom of the hole. Plant tomato plant on top of eggshells. Fill in with soil and press firmly around plant. Add herbs, such as basil, parsley, and chives, if desired.
