For the serious Halloween reveler, the trick-or-treat bag isn't merely a vessel for the evening's spoils; it must also be a spooky accessory to his or her costume. To create a bag equal to the task, all you'll need is an old pillowcase, a bit of rope, and some iron-on patches. Choose from our assortment of ghostly faces, or you can create your own gruesome expression.

Tools and Materials
Pillowcase trick-or-treat templates
White pencil
Scissors
2 black 5-by-5-inch iron-on patches, such as Dritz patches
White or light-color pillowcase
Press cloth
1 1/2 yards heavy rope or string
Safety pin

Pillowcase Bag How-To
1. To make the eyes and mouth, print out our templates, and cut them out. Lay each template on the back of an iron-on patch and trace it with a white pencil. (You can also draw the eyes and mouth yourself). Using scissors, cut them out.

2. Lay the pillowcase flat. Place the eyes and the mouth, fusible side down, about 12 inches from the pillowcase's opening. Lay a press cloth over the eyes and mouth, and press with a dry iron set on medium.

3. To make a drawstring, cut 2 oval-shape re-enforcement holes about 1 1/2 inches long and 1 inch wide from the remaining iron-on material. Iron them onto the inside of the pillowcase hem, on either side of the seam. Using a small pair of scissors, cut vertical openings about 1/2 inch long at the center of each oval. Cut a piece of rope, such as clothesline, to approximately 54 inches. Attach a safety pin to one end of the rope, and pass it through the pillowcase. Remove the pin and knot the ends together. If you have a small child, shorten the pillowcase by cutting the bottom and sewing it closed.
