Mesh Leaf Wreath

New York City's Dulken & Derrick is renowned for its exquisite silk flowers, but the company also manufactures other millinery flora, such as the brass-mesh leaves used to construct this wreath. Although the results are stunning, this project is easy to make at home.

Tools and Materials
10-inch double-wreath frame
3 yards of 1-inch metallic mesh ribbon
90 brass-mesh leaves
26-gauge brass wire
Wire cutters
Bunches of plastic berries
Ribbon
Plastic or metal ring
Fabric scissors
Large needle or awl

Mesh Leaf Wreath How-To
1. Wrap the entire 10-inch double-wreath frame with metallic mesh ribbon; completely cover the frame.

2. Group leaves into small bunches of two or three pairs, wrapping them together at the stems with a 14-inch length of brass wire.

3. Wire a few berry bunches in with some leaf pairs.

4. Attach the bunches to the wreath frame by wrapping the loose end of the wire around the frame, overlapping the bunches as you go.

5. Continue until the wreath frame is completely covered.

6. To hang the wreath, create a bow with a piece of wide ribbon, and hand-stitch a plastic or metal ring to the back of the bow.

7. Cut another ribbon to a length appropriate for where you'll be hanging the wreath. Loop the ribbon, folding the two loose ends over each other and hand-stitching them to the back of the bow.

8. Hand-stitch the other end of the loop to the back of the wreath.
