How to Paint Jar Lids
It's easy to customize the colors of these jar lids to coordinate with a room. When you refinish the lids, you can leave the paint as it is after you spray it, or you can give the lids an aged appearance in keeping with the antique look and style of the pressed-glass jars. Martha has used this refinishing process on the lids of jars she found at a flea market. Materials Jar Lid How-To 2. For an aged appearance, gently dull the painted surface with fine-grade steel wool. Rub areas where the lid might have naturally worn, such as the edges. Dust off lid with a lint-free rag. 3. Use a palette knife to scoop out some paste wax, and rub it on the wax paper to fully blend the color. Using a lint-free rag, apply small amounts of wax to the painted surface to create a patina; do not swirl the wax. Allow to dry completely. Buff with a clean, lint-free rag. Apply a second coat, if desired; allow to dry, and buff.
