Halloween Tutu

Turn any little girl into a princess this Halloween with a simple-to-sew tutu costume.

Tools and Materials
1 1/2 yards of 54-inch-wide tulle
Pins
Plastic spiders or silk flowers
Sewing machine with coordinating thread
1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon, cut to a 20-inch length and a 65-inch length
Scissors
Fray Check

Tutu How-To
1. Fold tulle in half lengthwise twice, creating 4 layers of tulle. Pin folded edge.

2. The pinned, folded edge will become the waistband; the other side will have two raw edges and one folded "pocket." Fill the pocket with plastic spiders or silk flowers.

3. Hem and sew both sides of tulle to encase the spiders or flowers.

4. Lay out the length of tulle again, making sure the pocket lies on top. Mark the center of the waistband edge of the tulle with a pin. Pin the center of the 20-inch ribbon to this point.

5. Take the ends of the ribbon and fold them onto the seam at each end of the tulle, pinning in place.

6. Sew tulle onto ribbon, making pleats as you sew so that the tulle fits on the 20-inch ribbon, which acts as the back of the skirt.

7. Lay out skirt so tulle is on top and 20-inch ribbon is on bottom. Pin the center of the 65-inch ribbon to the center of the 20-inch ribbon and sew ribbons together along the top, sides and bottom. Cut ends of ribbon ties; seal with Fray Check.
