Sunflowers can be a beautiful decoration in your home, and when a sunflower head is dried it can be given new life as a natural bird feeder in your yard. Birds simply love the seeds in the center of the flower. This Good Thing is very simple to create and makes a great gift.

Tools and Materials
Two large sunflower heads (preferably 'Russian Giant' or 'Russian Mammoth')
Phillips-head screwdriver
Floral wire

Sunflower Bird Feeder How-To
1. Allow two sunflowers to dry in a cool, well-ventilated place so that mold doesn't form. When drying, wait for the heads to turn brown and the backs to turn yellow.

2. Once dry, cut off the head of the sunflower. Alternatively, you can purchase predried sunflowers online or at a local farmers' market.

3. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, make two small holes about 1 inch apart in the middle of each dried sunflower head; push the screwdriver through the soft underside of the flower, creating the hole.

4. Hold each sunflower back-to-back, seeds facing outward, with holes aligned. Holding the floral wire horizontally, thread the left end through the left set of holes, and the right end through the right set of holes. Once both ends are out the other side, twist the ends together. Create a loop at the end of the wire to hang the sunflower on. Be sure to cut off any excess. Hang the sunflower from a tree or fence.
