A former pin box now houses a felt Christmas tree and three striped candy canes, each made by twisting together two strands of colored electrical wire. The player jiggles the box to hook the candy canes onto map tacks used as tree ornaments. Think of stashing some of these sweet little candy-cane games among the more imposing gifts under the tree this year to help while away the time spent waiting to open presents.

Candy Cane Game How-To
1. Use your box of choice to trace the shape for the background of the game, creating a paper template. This toy was made from an octagonal dress-pin box. With a utility knife, cut out template.



2. Use that template and scissors to cut out the game's background shape in felt.



3. To make the Christmas tree, use pinking shears to snip off three corners of a piece of green felt. Then snip the points off the bottom two pieces. The pieces can vary in width and still make a perfectly recognizable tree. Use craft glue to glue tree onto background.



4. To make "ornaments," place map tacks onto tree at desired points. The candy canes, which will hang on the tacks when the game is played successfully, are made of two strands of electrical wire -- one white, one red -- twisted together.
