Pleated pockets on this leather-trimmed apron give a little more room for the supplies Megen Lee needs. I packed his gift in a linen-covered sewing box with some simply fabulous tools: a tomato pincushion, colorful threads, European scissors, and other necessities.

Crafter's Apron How-To
Using apron template and pocket template, cut apron and pocket forms from canvas. Use a disappearing-ink pen to transfer the stitch lines from the pocket template. Add pleats to the pocket, as described for the gardener's apron. Sew a 3/4-inch double hem to finish top of pocket. Sew pocket to apron, and add compartments, following gardener's apron instructions. Trim the entire apron with leather; you'll need about 60 inches of 5/8-inch strips. Add 2 long waist straps, using the neck-strap method in the gardener's apron how-to (each will start as a 2 1/2-by-34-inch strip).
