Once the bride-to-be selects her dress, her next big concern is how she'll wear her hair. Following is a schedule to keep for having the perfect do when you say "I do."
When deciding on your hairstyle, keep in mind the setting of your ceremony, and be sure your stylist has the correct tools to weatherproof your hair. An anti-frizz cream might be necessary if you're planning to marry on the beach, along with a strong hold gel or hairspray to maintain curls. Also choose a beautiful look that will complement your dress and jewelry. If your dress is very ornate, choose a simple updo or sleek chignon, for example.
Six Months in Advance
If you can, consult your hairdresser six months in advance. Discuss whether you want to grow your hair for the occasion. Do you want to look casual or dressy? Bring your dress (or a photo of it) to the salon, along with the veil, and maybe even the jewelry you plan to wear. Plan to try several styles with your hairdresser so you can find the best look for your hair type.
A Few Weeks in Advance
Don't cut and color at the last minute -- even with the most experienced stylist, accidents do happen. Leave enough time to fix anything that might potentially go wrong. Only after you've washed your hair a few times does a new style and color appear natural.
On Your Wedding Day
Remember that squeaky-clean hair has a harder time holding a style. After washing your hair, your stylist will need to use a little more product than usual to "dirty" the hair a bit, which will give it more hold and texture. Create a little touch-up kit. When you're about to pose for photographs, you'll need extra powder to keep from looking shiny in the pictures. Your kit should also include extra hairspray, bobby pins, or anything necessary for keeping you looking your best!
Featured Hair Styles
Model 1: Romantic
A jeweled floral clip is a pretty touch. Other clips can change the overall look, but it will still be romantic. Tip: Use hairspray liberally so you don't lose the curl.
Model 2: Ethereal
This look is great for an outdoor wedding or for brides with naturally wavy hair because it's low maintenance. Blow out hair straight with little bit of volume, going section by section with a curling iron.
Process:
1. Curl from middle of hair shaft to keep it loose and free flowing.
2. Add shine product.
3. Make braid.
4. Finish with hairspray.
Tip: A jeweled headband is also a nice option to complement this ethereal look
Model 3: Sophisticated
A good thing about this hairstyle is that the chignon is pulled back away from your face so you don't have to worry about your hair. But you do have to make sure you have everything to keep it in place all night such as bobby pins. If you decide to incorporate flowers in your hair for your big day, it's important to let your florist know. The florist can wrap the stem so it can easily be pinned in the hair. Larger stemmed flowers are more difficult to use, so consult your florist to find the right one for you. Keep your floral hair accessories stored in the fridge or a cooler until the very last moment. Normally, a flower will last the whole day, but it's a good idea to have a spare just in case. If you want to be really careful, opt for a faux flower instead. These days there are convincingly real options available.
