Martha's 10th Street Restaurant Tour1 Rating (See All) New York City abounds with great restaurants, and on one stretch of 10th Street in Manhattan's East Village, Martha has uncovered some hidden gems. Featuring delicious food at great prices, a select four are highlighted in her 10th Street Restaurant series. 1. Momofuku Bakery and Milk Bar
Momofuku Bakery and Milk Bar is a quirky bakery boasting one-of-a-kind desserts, snacks, and sweets, including such delights as crack pie and compost cookies. Owned by chef David Chang, who opened his first restaurant, Momofuku Noodle Bar, in 2005 to much critical acclaim, Milk Bar features the delicious, exotic desserts of Momofuku pastry chef Christina Tosi.
2. ChikaLicious Dessert Bar ChikaLicious, owned by East Village residents Don and Chika Tillman, is a small "bar" featuring upscale desserts. Chika, a pastry chef, and her assistant chefs work from behind a counter to make and serve their wonderfully delicious desserts. In 2008, the husband-and-wife team expanded the business with Dessert Club ChikaLicious. The bakery allows on-the-run fans of Chika's desserts to pop in for something sweet -- Martha does this each time she's in the neighborhood. Featured Recipes
3. Rai Rai Ken Martha enjoys some exquisite Japanese cuisine with a visit to Rai Rai Ken noodle house, where the chefs have received first-hand training from Japanese chefs. Owned by Bon Yagi, whose 10 New York City restaurants each specialize in a different aspect of Japanese gastronomy, Rai Rai Ken is known for offering an authentic experience and for its steaming hot bowls of ramen -- a culinary staple for many college students and the perfect dish for warming up on a cold winter night.
4. Graffiti Food and Wine Bar From a tiny 470-square-foot space, Chef Jehangir Mehta serves up big flavors. The menu consists of 15 small dishes that combine the savory and the sweet, each created using innovative techniques. Providing full-service is a four-member staff, who are all chefs, attending to everything from greeting and taking orders to serving and clearing tables.
