Tell us about your business.

Bill Campbell's story is truly inspiring. Bill took a pottery class that changed his world. He quit his job and started his journey to follow his passion. Today, with 400 wholesale accounts, two award winning pottery lines and his own store and gallery, Bill is still following that passion. His designs and glazes reflect his constant pursuit of perfection.

Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio.

Campbell Pottery suffered a fire in 2004, and moved into a building which started out as a canned milk manufacturing plant. Bill used the move to rethink his production areas and how he fires his work. He built a huge envelope kiln and his battery of electric kilns fire seven days a week to keep up with orders. He employs 27 people at his studio and 10 at his store/gallery.

What inspires you?

Bill has always been inspired by the mystery of the kiln. Each firing is like magic. When he opens his kilns he is greeted by a constant changing array of colors and crystals. It is as if the glaze has a mind of its own and results are very unpredictable. Bill loves to create glaze recipes that challenge that kiln magic.

What makes your business stand out?

Campbell Pottery stands out because it melds the best of both worlds of form and color in a functional product. It enhances the daily ritual of living.

What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur?

Run while you still can. It is harder then you think.

What does American Made mean to you?

For Bill, American Made is simple, it is made in this country by American citizens.
