Tell us about your business. They say that what you enjoyed most before the age of ten is the best indicator of what your life’s passion will be…from the moment I first held a crayon I was creating FASHION STORIES with my sketches of flowers, pretty outfits, and dreamy portraits. My life has taken many twists and turns since I first held those crayons but I always come back to my true passion: illustrating all things fashionable, feminine, nostalgic and beautiful and weaving these elements into an illustration that tells a story. I created my first fashion Illustration Calendar for family and friends in 2012 and soon after opened an Etsy shop to sell calendars, prints, pet and bridal portraits. I am very excited about my fledgling blog on which I post daily FASHION STORIES - I started the blog to promote my shop but it is quickly becoming my passion to create illustrations and stories about the fashionable characters that inspire me every day. My goal is not just to sell products but to entertain!
Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio. On the weekend, my workspace is a beautiful glass table located next to sunny bay windows which let in loads of natural light. I keep my Mac, iphone and ipad nearby to research images, photograph and fact check my stories as I paint. I have favorite paintbrushes and porcelain dishes I use for palettes and I paint with watercolor pencils, dry watercolors and lead pencils. I have two feline assistants and I blog about my process regularly! I have learned that customers are very interested in my process so I am consistent with Instagram and FB posts. During the week I have a very corporate job which limits my creative activities but I always carry a sketchbook and pencils for quick studies and character development ideas. As Coco Chanel said: Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. My workspace is not limited to a physical location!
What inspires you?My inspiration comes from everywhere! From fashionable women I see on the streets of Boston, New York, Miami or anywhere my travels take me to the abundance of images on Pinterest, Instagram or Fashion Magazines which serve as a visual feast for my insatiable hunger for FASHION STORIES! Who is this woman? What is her name? What are her dreams? Where did she grow up? What does her style say about her? What do we reveal about ourselves through our fashion choices? This has always been a fascination for me. Although fashion photography is a beautiful art I am delighted in the resurgence of the popularity of Fashion Illustration in recent years. I am inspired to create paper and digital products which celebrate this art form.
What makes your business stand out?Even if I never make a penny I will continue to create and share my passion for illustration and story telling with all who are interested!
What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur?Don't follow the trends, follow your passion.
