Tell us about your business.Designing and sewing has always been a part of my everyday life, so it was a natural for me to transition into a business owner. My design process involves a detailed consultation with each client, which also includes gathering measurements/information for home décor or fashion, fabric selection/buying, fitting…to the installation of complex window treatments. I enjoy discovering fresh and exciting fabrics, with unique patterns and textures for clients. I am also delighted to have the opportunity to create that one-of-a-kind piece and always receptive to listen to my customer’s vision. I am well versed with current trends and have the flexibility to meet the requests of my clients in the home décor and fashion industry. The moment I began my business…I knew that it would be an awesome adventure…hard work, sometimes long hours, but a rewarding journey that highlights the fulfillment that only an American can experience in an “American Made” environment!
Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio. My studio is located at the Jersey Shore, in Neptune, New Jersey. The display area and shelving are neatly arranged to accommodate clients, as they are seated in a comfortable space for consultations, meetings and fittings. Easily accessible to visitors from major highways, the studio is fully equipped with pattern making supplies, design tools, cutting table, sewing equipment, dress forms and a wide array of fabrics and an assortment of embellishments.
What inspires you?My family inspires and keeps me spiritually grounded. I am also very grateful that my business is one of the threads that connects clients, suppliers and companies, throughout New Jersey, as well as the Tri-State area to each other to help build a better tomorrow for America. Everyone’s work ethic is blended by the desire to keep America strong for our future generations.
What makes your business stand out?As a Minority owned business, being both African American and a Women owned business, I inherited the creativity, integrity and strong work ethic from my mother, who was also a designer and a seamstress. It was always paramount for her to focus on excellent customer service, while building a strong following. I remember that everyone was always very pleased with her work. I believe that I extend the same kind of customer service. I also believe that a satisfied customer is a loyal customer and a happy customer is a satisfied customer! I have been blessed to thrive in a business and greeted by many referrals over the years. I am also excited about giving back to my community, church, schools and organizations.
What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur?Once you have discovered your creative vision…begin to document and create your blueprint for your business, while organizing your steps towards success. Always remain cognizant of your dream and purpose, yet allow for expansion and flexibility to nurture and grow your business entity. Design your marketing plan, seek the wisdom of a mentor to assist you, while navigating through your creative and corporate process. Always give thanks for your creative gifts, while serving others with a cheerful heart and a good sense of humor. Surround yourself with inspirational family members and friends, loyal customers and a motivated community that believe in your vision, just as much as you do!
What does American Made mean to you?The strength of America’s economy is determined by the trade of products and services within the boundaries of the United States. American Made means that my company is thriving and serves as one of the corporate bricks in the foundation of our great Nation. Consistency is paramount to me, in that I design American, I purchase American Made products and ultimately serve American customers and businesses.
