Tell us about your business.

Nelle & Lizzy is a sophisticated customized jewelry purveyor founded in 2004 by two mothers with a mission to become the premier web-based destination for affordable yet elegant customized jewelry of the highest quality and craftsmanship. Nelle & Lizzy was born as co-founder Page Elizabeth’s quest to have the names of her three boys stamped on the outside of a three-band ring, and finding it impossible to secure a jeweler to do so. She then called on her friend Martha Nelle, an experienced jewelry designer, and together they began the long journey of creating a line that subtly expresses who is in your heart. After years of meticulous research and development of a proprietary stamping method, their goal to create jewelry that is understated yet meaningful became a reality. In response to overwhelming customer demand, Nelle & Lizzy has grown its product line to include custom stamped bracelets, necklaces and birthstone rings, all of which reflect the same love of family.

Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio.

We started in a garage house and as the business grew we realized we needed more space. We purchased a building in the Historic Southside District of Fort Worth. The building was an abandoned prosthetics manufacturing office, so we gutted it and started over using mostly recycled materials from our sliding doors to our walls!

What inspires you?

Our biggest inspiration is our customers. We pride ourselves in the fact that we make jewelry that is sophisticated, simple and yet holds a lot of meaning. We have people tell us all the time something we have made for them is now considered a family heirloom. While we create designs to celebrate birth, we also create designs which serve as mementos of children, parents and loved ones who have passed. The stories we hear let us know that our designs have become part of their history.

What makes your business stand out?

We design each piece and don't use prefabricated materials. When we started in this business (and customized jewelry was just getting started) we knew quality and customer service were going to separate us from anyone else who came along. Years later, there are many people who sell customized jewelry but the majority use the prefabricated pieces rather than creating their own designs.

What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur?

Go for it. There is nothing more rewarding than following your passion. We live by the adage - do what you love and love what you do. Whether you become an accountant, shipping manager, sales director, marketing specialist of janitor... you are the one responsible for making your dreams come true.

What does American Made mean to you?

American Made means hiring people in our area and sourcing out projects to people who live in the US and understand the American Dream. We have a mother and daughter on our team who have been with us since the beginning and we can't imagine Nelle & Lizzy without them.
