Proof Artisan Breads
Tell us about your business.I discovered my love for baking while attending Le Cordon Bleu-Scottsdale in 2006. One of my first assignments in Introductory Baking was a classic french baguette. When I felt that dough in my hands, I was hooked. I showed up 2 hours early every day for the rest of the class, just to work on my baguettes. That was the first inkling that I might be able to start a business while doing something I love.
Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio.I take advantage of the Arizona Cottage Industry law which allows me to work from my humble home in downtown Mesa, AZ. I don't have much counter space to work with, but I do have a large work table for rolling out dough. I have 2 ovens and 5 children who are more than willing to lend a hand. I am quickly outgrowing this and I've started exploring possible commercial spaces.
What inspires you?I'm inspired by bread. I can mix 3 simple ingredients and something transcendent happens. The final result greatly surpasses the sum of its ingredients. What can be more inspiring? It helps me realize that I can be transcendent, that I can surpass the sum of my parts. We all can. The only limits we have are the ones we impose on ourselves.
What makes your business stand out?Me. This business is personal. There isn't any separation between who I am and what I do. I am a baker. I am Proof.
What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur?Follow your passion and work until you can't stand up.
What does American Made mean to you? When I think of American Made, the following comes to mind: locally sourced, hard work, and high quality. I believe in using locally sourced ingredients when possible, and in doing so I give back to my community and my country. I believe in hard work. Growing up on a farm taught me that anything is possible with hard work. I believe in creating a high quality product, and I believe in American Made.
