Great South Bay Candles
Tell us about your business.I have always loved to burn fragrant candles in my home. Many of the candles today are made with paraffin wax and are unsafe and contain toxins. Based on what was learned, I decided to experiment by making candles using soy wax. Burning soy wax candles is a safer alternative and healthier for the environment. With much research and time I perfected soy candle making. When candle requests from friends and family increased I knew I had something here and Great South Bay Candles was born. We create eco-friendly products by utilizing the best ingredients. Our candles are made only from 100% pure soy wax, cotton wicks (lead & zinc free) and premium fragrance oils which are phthalate free. They are hand poured in small batches with tender, love and care. Besides having an online store, you may find Great South Bay Candles at artisans fairs, farmer's market's, charity events and in a few retail locations.
Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio.I first started creating the soy candles in my kitchen. As the business grew I eventually built a small studio in another section in my home. When I have an creative idea this gives me the ability to just get up and start the process without having to go to far.
What inspires you?My customers inspire me especially when they compliment me on how much they love my candle products. This is very self-fulfilling and rewarding. It is important to me to help preserve the planet. As there is a demand for eco-friendly products, I'm proud to say that I have created products to help the environment.
What makes your business stand out?All of my soy candles products are hand poured in small batches using the highest quality ingredients. It was my goal to make them as all natural as possible. I'm proud to say that Great South Bay Candles are eco-friendly, vegan, biodegradable and additive free. I believe that besides having a quality product my customers are extremely important to me. I make it a point to have a personal business relationship with them. Whether its knowing the products they like, creating customs orders or just knowing little about them. My customers love that.
What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur? If you have a vision, go for it and everything will eventually fall into place. You will make mistakes along the way. It is a learning process but don't get discouraged. It takes time for a business to evolve and be successful.
