Tell us about your business.

ROC Paper Scissors is an enterprise that was born out of gratitude for the willingness of a group of ladies to pour out their time and talents into the life of our youngest son, who was born with Down's Syndrome. During his first three years, these therapists came to our home weekly to work with him and show us how best to assist with his development. A store bought “Thank You” card just wasn't sufficient to express our appreciation and gratitude for their dedication. So, I created my own handmade cards. A distinctive characteristic of our product designs ( greetingcards, Custom cards, wall hangings and cake toppers) is the 3-D appearance - suitable for framed display and decor. We have an online store, an online presence on face book and now we are honored to be a part of the American Made Market on E-bay. While gaining an international audience, I hope to develop distribution to high end retail stores in the U.S., create kits for TV shopping networks and write card making books.

Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio.

My art studio is in my home. Atmosphere for me, is everything. I can't thank of a better place to get inspired. Good relationships and hospitality are so important in business, so I try my best to make my customers feel right at home when they stop by. For my online customers there is always the same effort in trying to convey the same spirit of hospitality and willingness to connect. Everything has to be handy yet aesthetically pleasing. It's a great feeling when others who come and visit, leave inspired and ready to go home to "create their own space". The most common comment I hear is,"how organized everything is". Most artist's in their creative moment can get messy and I'm no exception. Let's just say it's an organized mess. I keep in mind that in this social media world we live in, every moment can become a photo opp or future blog post. So my camera is always close by to be able to share with those interested in taking a small glimpse of my world of paper-art!

What inspires you?

God, my husband, my three sons and my 1 year-old fraternal twin, grand baby boys. It's the great loves in your life that will bring out the best in you. They've made me the blessed woman that I am and in return I can be a blessing to others. I'm also inspired by the special memories, special moments captured on camera and stories of all the people that have come my way throughout the years. When people come to me they are putting their trust in what I do to create a product they will be excited about giving, displaying or using. I put my heart and soul into every order and the wonderful feedback I get, is my fuel for more inspiration to creating pieces that will emote such powerful responses, hopefully every single time.

What makes your business stand out?

UNIQUENESS is probably the thing that makes my products stand out the most, particularly because of the attention to detail-be it a regular greeting card, a Custom Card, a giant wall hanging for a nursery/shower or a cake topper. Granted there are many tremendously talented paper crafter's out there that do things that leave me with my jaw hanging, I have yet to see anything even similar to the customized paper portraits replicas (Custom Cards) we have become known for.

What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur?

Make sure it is something you love to do because you will be working very, very hard. Keep it balanced. Keep your priorities straight. Try to have an organized schedule and stick to it the best you can, especially if your work is close-to, if not in your very own home. When you are working in what you love, you can easily loose track of time because you are in "your creative zone". Never put any limitations on yourself. Lastly, ask your self: What is in your hands? Working with what you have available, can spur all kinds of new and creative ideas. Focus on what you have to work with and not on what you don't have. Many times, it's not as much about how "many materials" we possess to do our craft but how creative we can get with what we have handy.

What does American Made mean to you?

American Made means an opportunity of a lifetime. We all have to work, but we must also enjoy life as well. Sometimes life blesses us with a way accomplish both. American Made provides the opportunity to dare to dream and put in motion our love, passion, talent and abilities that lie with in each and everyone of us. The only limitations are the ones we put on ourselves. American Made is the gracious platform given to every dreamer who dares to live the American dream.
