Gigi Burris Millinery was founded in 2009 from a passionate love of both headwear and unique luxury items. I take pride in preserving the delicate craft of hat design by using couture sewing techniques and only the finest materials. While studying abroad at Parson's Paris, I had the privilege of visiting old world mercerie shops and getting a glimpse of couture techniques from millinery masters of a glamourous era gone by. After receiving a BFA from Parsons School of design in 2009, my one of a kind hats began to receive attention in the press and I was named by Vogue Italia as one of the upcoming American designers to watch in the September 2009 Young Talent Section. In 2011, I launched my website and have been growing ever since. It is important to me use a local factory and suppliers. Being a 6th generation Floridian, some of my favorite materials to use in my creations are alligator skins and wildlife materials from my family's property in Central Florida.

Hand feather work techniques and couture sewing is done in my New York city atelier. Feathers, handmade silk flowers and felts are sourced and in NYC's midtown garment center from vendors in business over 8 decades. There is romance in creating something by hand in my studio with time tested techniques.
