ADORA by Simona
Tell us about your business. My love affair with designing jewelry was born in 2005 with a visit to Tucson, Arizona, home to one of the greatest gem shows in the country. I immersed myself into that ocean of sparkling gemstones and I knew then and there that there was no way back. It all started as a hobby, with a few pieces that were meant as presents for family and friends. Later on, my collections quickly grew from a few pieces that sold very fast at trunk shows to hundreds of uniquely designed pieces that have been showcased in fashion shows, retail boutiques, collections, art galleries, fundraisers and big events such as Pebble Beach’s 2012 Concours d’Elegance where I was invited to participate as a guest artist, Primetime Emmy Awards 2013 where ADORA original designs were prominently featured on display and gifted to celebrities at the gift lounge hosted by GBK Productions, and Queen of the Universe Pageant 2014 where ADORA creations were offered as prizes to all contestants.
Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio.I live in Monterey, a beautiful coastal city in Central California. My husband and I bought our house in 2008, 1.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and we created it into our little piece of paradise, with flowers, fountains, and a bamboo “forest” in the back yard, a great place for our cat and dog to play hide-and-seek. Marked by thousands of years of history (Monterey was home to the Esalen Indians around 500BC), and surrounded by spectacular scenery (Big Sur, Carmel, Pebble Beach), the inspiration just keeps flowing. My studio is located at the back of the house, a tiny, bright room facing east, where I like to start my days watching the sunrise with a cup of frothing cappuccino, trying to organize the million different creative ideas that flood my mind.
What inspires you?Inspired by color and mixing sophisticated style with the simplicity of primary shapes, I incorporate in my earthy yet elegant designs an organic approach using raw or minimally processed gemstones, freeform geode slices, natural pearls, Swarovski crystals, often set in textured metals like gold, brass, silver and copper. Each design is uniquely handcrafted with an ever-growing passion for nature and all things beautiful.
What makes your business stand out?The uniqueness of each and every piece that comes out of the hands of an artist, quality materials and excellent customer service would make any business stand out and set it apart from competitors. You just can’t compare a handcrafted product with something bought from a line of hundreds of identical products. Each handcrafted piece is unique and carries within the passion of the person who created it. You can’t get that anywhere else. Plus, it stimulates creativity, and in today’s world we all need creative ways of expressing ourselves.
What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur?Never give up! Put your heart and soul into your creations and believe in their ability to make the world a better place. I believe that when someone is living their passion, they put much more energy in making their world beautiful.
What does American Made mean to you?It is in our power to change our economy and to strengthen our communities one purchase at a time. American consumers need to realize the importance of buying American Made goods whenever possible. By doing so we support not only domestic manufacturers and keep the American economy growing, but we also support American workers, safe working conditions, decent wages, and child labor laws. Cleaner, environmentally-sound manufacturing processes, higher product safety standards and consumer protection laws are in place to protect us and our families. For these reasons American made goods are of better quality. When you buy only American made products, you insist on a higher standard and ensure that future generations of US citizens will be able to find relevant jobs and live in a cleaner environment.
