Tell us about your business. The story of Produce Candles is one of passion and curiosity. Founder and farmers market enthusiast, Beau Burdette, began traveling to farmer's markets in the Southeast, becoming influenced by the sights, sounds, and smells in the market place. This 'candle farmer' is fascinated by the diversity of produce, and decided to distill the experience with Produce Candles. Sweet, earthy, spicy, crisp -- each element will be seasonally represented in hand-cultivated candles made with natural soy wax and premium cotton wicks. These clean, fresh scents bring the best elements of the farm stand into the home.
Tell us about your workspace, shop, or studio. Our 'candle farm' as we like to call it, is located in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Each of our candles is hand poured and hand crafted at the shop. Our process begins with hand wicking each candle. From there each jar is hand poured with all natural soy wax. Candles are then labeled and shipped out for the world to see. Our offices are actually located above the shop, along with our rooftop garden. It was important to us to have a crop of each of our candle fragrances growing on our rooftop garden. Not only is it inspiration, but it bring us joy to nurture something throughout the work day, and of course brightens up our day to log some hours working in the sun!
What inspires you? This list could be never ending... our initial response for Produce would, of course, be Farmers Markets. The sights, smells, sounds, energy, and the people you encounter will scouring a local market is unmatched in any other experience.
What makes your business stand out?Produce is not just a candle company. Our mission is not to just constantly produce a product. In joining scent and soil, our goal is to create a lifestyle brand. Produce stands out with it's embracing nature, and overall fresh desirable lifestyle. Without a compelling story, a candle is simply a candle. Much of our brand is all in the little details. We've spent tremendous time designing memorable and thoughtful details to set our brand a part. These little hints of our brand only further convey our lifestyle and culture.
What advice would you give an aspiring creative entrepreneur? We would advise budding entrepreneurs to create a brand that can really translate into a culture and a lifestyle. Create something you're passionate about, and that can withstand trends. Most importantly... live the life of your brand!
What does American Made mean to you? We're strong believers in producing our product locally and domestically. For us, this only inspires us further and helps us be more passionate about our product. For us, not only does this create jobs but also help those in need in our community. Each of our floor candle makers are employed with us through the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department. Our candle crop we love so dearly would not be the same without their enthusiasm, zest for life, and high attention to detail. Their eagerness to work and be successful is infectious.
