Bespoke by Elizabeth Larson
Tell us about your business. As a young Mom, I had vision for products that I couldn't find available on the market. A friend of mine was opening a boutique, and urged me to create a little line to put in her shop...and it's continued from there. My inspiration is always based on things I can see in my mind's eye & feel in my heart, but I can't seem to find. I love the charm and quality of Yesteryear, and am always enchanted by historical movies, classic children's literature and fairy tales where everything is so beautiful and dreamy. I am a maker from birth, self taught at practically everything I do. Creativity is something that flows out of who we are...and I know I was made to create. It makes me feel so completely alive to create beauty that inspires the heart & soul. Each item is individually handmade with love. Please expect immaculate quality and uncommon perfection. Inspired by all things lovely, beautiful, pure, whimsical & dreamy...
What makes your business stand out?The quality of workmanship sets me apart. A maker I had the pleasure of knowing, was one of the first to see my work...(well, beyond my childhood makings shown to my Mother, Grandma or Aunties!) She was the owner & creator of a very successful business she started from scratch at her kitchen table when she was young, known as "Woof & Poof". I took some samples down to her local store front & when she saw my products she said, "Why are you sewing like this?"..."This is couture, you don't have to sew like this..." I wasn't sure what to say, but I know that I told her that I couldn't help it...that those details and perfections made my heart sing...and to take away those details would ruin the experience for me. As a proper business woman, she was quite puzzled, but told me she had never seen anything like it and encouraged me to continue where my heart led...
What's the best business advice you've received?I don't know if it's advice I've received...I'm sure some wise old soul said it & I just can't remember... But I believe you should be who you were made to be, no matter what...and at the end of the day, you have to like you. When you create, and you take something so intimate to who you are...an expression from your deep insides...and set it out for the world to see...you have to be okay with you, and you have to do it because you know who you are, regardless of anything else. I believe being true to yourself, and that expressing your own unique individuality is one of the most precious things we can hope to find...who we are & what we were made to do...I find it's when we're most fully alive. So...please excuse me...back to the business advice part...I'm me, and I like me, and I know who I am, and I make things out of who I am & what I love...whatever happens after that in a business capacity, has to flow organically out of that...being genuinely me and nothing else...
