Tell us about your business.Ever since I was little I have had an appreciation for all things vintage. With both of my grandmothers gone, my connection to them is through their vintage jewelry. Unable to wear their clip on and screw back earrings I taught myself how to convert them to modern posts and drops. Inspired by this creative design process, I decided to start my own Etsy shop, Lynn Oliver. Lynn Oliver (my middle name + my husband’s middle name) is modern jewelry created from vintage beads and one-of-a-kind vintage finds. I love breathing new life into vintage jewelry whether it's as simple as turning a great pair of art deco clip on earrings into modern posts or mixing and matching different vintage finds to create a one-of-a-kind statement necklace. Each piece is unique and has its own story. Right now Lynn Oliver is only available through Etsy or private trunk shows, but as it grows I would love to start exploring wholesale and see it sold in boutique stores.
What makes your business stand out?My business is unique because each piece is a connection to the past. Everything used is either from old vintage warehouse stock or from items founds at antique stores or estate sales. I also have the flexibility to work with individuals to transform old family heirlooms into something more modern and wearable. For example, my friend recently gave me a pair of her grandmother’s gold filigree hoops clip on earrings. I removed the clip back and combined them with a few other vintage beads to create a new one-of-a kind drop earring. It makes me happy to know that a pair of earrings that otherwise would have sat in the back of her closet are now something she will get enjoyment out of wearing while also remembering her grandmother.
