Blue Leaf Boutique

American Made Since 2011

Annie Walsh

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Nature inspired, one of a kind, hand embroidered pieces of functional decor and art.

Tell us about your business.

My business grew out of a love of drawing and fine art. A busy mom with two little ones in tow, oil painting was no longer practical in both a living and business sense. I was taught embroidery by my mother as a child and combined my love of drawing with hand embroidery to develop one of a kind products for my shop Blue Leaf Boutique. My product designs are almost entirely inspired by nature. We are fortunate to live in the country surrounded by trees and animals so inspiration comes on a daily basis. Eventually I see my business evolving into a greater focus on the design and less on production. Either by hiring more artisans to help with the production or to move some pieces with greater demand to a machine embroidery will greatly free time to create new one of kind pieces. I also want to expand my products to include more variety including embroidered jewelry and home goods.

What makes your business stand out?

Very few products are both hand drawn and hand embroidered. There is something very special about receiving a piece of art that is both functional enough for the everyday home, like my family tree pillow covers, but also is truly one of kind. I think that is why my customers keep coming back and sharing these gifts with friends and family.

What's the best business advice you've received?

To have faith in my product and not to give up! Things were very slow at first. It took time to advertise, build positive feedback and repeat customers. I had some lucky breaks eventually but at many points before them I could have thrown in the towel. I believed that my items were both beautiful and fulfilled a need, eventually others did too.
