Anne Nye Glass
Tell us about your business. After many frustrated years as a graphic designer, I stepped away from the paycheck in 1995 to begin pursuing my dream of being an artist. A friend and I opened a gallery in 2000 as a place to show our work. I launched out on my own after 10 years in the gallery and my work is now represented by over 50 galleries in the US/Canada including the one I first began. I have a production line and a fine art line, the first is mostly made by my assistant while my husband works with me on the fine art line. Process: Sheet glass is cut, shaded & contoured with crushed/powdered glass and kiln fired to 1400˚F over a 24 hr period. Future: I am constantly refining/innovating and have created several new processes. My production line is providing a much-needed job for my assistant & helping her launch a new career while I pursue my passion helping move kiln formed glass from craft to fine art. I hope to continue teaching & mentoring other artists, writing a series of books to that end.
What makes your business stand out?I often half joke that I am either easily bored or very curious but I am always problem solving and innovating. My newest palette knife technique takes glass even closer to painting, my first love. I also create paintings that include glass work.
What's the best business advice you've received?"Do what you can with what you have and do SOMETHING even if it's wrong".....my Mom
