Tell us about your business.I’m a self-taught designer with an inherent need to create. I first opened my own furniture studio to channel my love of design, but it has evolved into a modern, domestic design studio where I design and make modern mirrors. Field Day follows a three-part process: design, engineer & craft. Designing doesn’t happen during a designated period; I take notes on things that inspire me throughout the day and throughout the world, later translating those thoughts into a whole collection at once. Engineering hammers out the details of taking a design from paper to actuality. And craft is the physical manipulation of a variety of materials to create the final products. Field Day’s evolution will ideally involve expanding our presence in the boutique retail market nationwide, expanding the contract side of the business for commercial properties like boutique hotels, commissioning more custom pieces and bringing on young, talented designers to increase the breadth of the collection.
What makes your business stand out?Field Day’s sole, realized passion is creating mirrors. It’s rare to find a line with 100% dedicated focus on mirrors, as most lines expand into other areas like lighting and home accessories. We also have a very strong viewpoint: we believe that, from your entryway to your dressing space, where and how you use a mirror is a unique experience with a specific purpose. That’s why we design pieces that quite literally reflect the spaces they were made for. The purpose defines the experience. The space defines the design. The design makes a bold statement. And the result is mirrors that are as captivating as the images reflected in them.
