Roxana Illuminated Perfume
Tell us about your business.Roxana Illuminated Perfume began as a quest to save seven native California oaks from removal on a lot next to our home. Thus the fragrance “Q” for Quercus agrifolia was born with an intention to bring awareness to the beauty and grace of this woodland tree. Techniques from the ancient alchemists to turn of the century perfumers are brought back to light in beautifully hand crafted aromas that are complex, exquisite pieces of olfactory art. The native garden and two hives of holistically cared for honey bees are part of the ever expanding work space from which I create tinctures, infusions and solid perfumes. Engraved brass compacts and lockets for our creamy unguents are sourced from a small family business in America. During each phase of the creative process, I support farmers and distillers who practice holistic principals and understand the interwoven dynamics of agriculture. As we grow our goal is to champion local businesses while funding educational and sustainable projects.
What makes your business stand out?Roxana Illuminated Perfume creates concept driven botanical perfumes, many of which have a call to social action. The palette is a garden of essences sourced from the deserts of Arabia, tropical forests of Madagascar as well as Mediterranean meadows. These precious aromatics, no longer used in contemporary perfumes due to cost, allow me to support organic agriculture while evoking fragrances of verdant flowers, whispers of sea air and the vertical Eden of the Pacific Northwest. Every fragrance is created in small batches by hand - resonating with a deep connection to the land. Like William Morris, I embrace the primacy of the handmade object and wish to bring that heritage and romance to my fragrance line.
