BDJ Craft Works
Tell us about your business.I began my own furniture and fine cabinetry studio in 2002. After years of designing pieces for clients in Austin and elsewhere, I established BDJ CRAFT WORKS in 2009 focusing on small decor items , primarily a series of wooden vases with glass liners. This has blossomed into a line of planters, trays, photo frames, coin banks and more. In creating these smaller designs I have found great satisfaction and a real centering of my creative voice. I plan on continuing to grow my business and I would like to prosper but regardless of its size or success, I will always keep the work sustainably hand made in the usa and strive to have the pieces continue to reflect the qualities I find important, the greatest being that the work and the specialness inherent within it remains the focus and is elevated above concerns for the bottom line.
What makes your business stand out?The level of quality and a refusal to compromise as well as a practice of truly designing from the heart.
What's the best business advice you've received? Most men do their best work in their 40's and 50's. Don't take yourself so goddamned seriously.
