Johnna Lynn

Los Angeles, California
Handmade premium guitar straps & purses for a new generation of music-minded fashionistas.

Tell us about your business.

Copperpeace is a West Coast cultured, USA made company. We create premium products for a Music-Minded/Fashion-Forward/Sourcing-Conscious generation. In 2007, founder Johnna Lynn made her first banjo strap while attending film school in North Carolina. After graduating and being accepted into the NBC Page program in Los Angeles, Johnna moved West to work in television and hone her leather craft business on the side. "One of our favorite slogans is 'Leather Lasts Forever'. I wanted to craft products that could be passed down to the next generation. The fact that I still use my grandmother's leather purses, says a lot about buying something well made". Our goal is to expand the CP product line into unisex bags with the Musician in mind. Many of our music clients ask for a carryall that can be used for their gear + laptop, while also being attractive + sturdy. We can see Copperpeace evolving into the go-to premium USA-MADE brand for musicians and design lovers alike.

What makes your business stand out?

Copperpeace bridges Music AND Fashion in a very direct way. All of our guitar straps and bags feature a guitar-pick pocket, which has become one of our signature features. The 'Concert Clutch' features an interchangeable guitar strap that can actually be used on a guitar. Or you can take any of our guitar straps and attach it to the Concert Clutch. These features add a very playful element to the fashion accessories that we create. Music Education is also incredibly important to us as a company. We work directly with three different charities that help further music education in schools where there would otherwise be limited or no music programs. Having had a privileged musical upbringing, we believe that music education is crucial to a child's developmental skills and future.

What's the best business advice you've received?

"It will all start coming together(and profiting in a tangible way) around the 5 year mark...and if it doesn't, you may want to consider doing something else". We just passed the 5-year mark and man is this advice so true(in the good way!)
