Tiffany Benaway & Brando Benaway
Tell us about your business. We are a husband and wife team. We left our high stress corporate careers to persue a small business together doing something we love with the person we love the most. It started with Brando creating a Succulent Shutter for his mom for Mother's Day and posting a photo of it on Facebook. We had several people who loved it and asked where they could get one. A light bulb went off; we made a few more and put them on Etsy. It snow balled from there. We sell our unique succulent gardens online through Etsy; and through craft shows and flea markets. We love finding unusual vintage and recycled items to plant succulents in. We find our items from thrift shops, garage sales, and flea markets. We also work with a company that recycles shutters, windows, and doors from houses that are being torn down. We hope to continue gaining momentum online and in the craft show circuit. We would love to be apart of a co-op shop in the future.
What makes your business stand out?It is important to us to have unique products that you can not really find. We love planting in different and unusual mediums. It is the highest compliment when customers say " I have never seen anything like this". It is also important to us to be earth friendly. That is why we choose to repurpose mostly vintage and recycled items to plant in. We use Organic soil to plant with and we replant clippings to stem new succulent life.
What's the best business advice you've received?"Do what you love" and it will show in your final product. When creating our succulent gardens we put a lot of love and detail to attention. We love getting to know the people that purchase our mini gardens and hearing where they will be putting them or who they will be giving it to. Its personal and intimate.
