Cleverly crafted artwork and products using materials reclaimed from objects considered obsolete and, therefore, trash.

Tell us about your business.

Renga Arts produces and sells art, both fine and functional, made from reclaimed, salvaged, and recycled materials. Renga Arts' owner Josef Szuecs makes many of the products offered. Pianos too costly to restore, scratched and out of style LP records, broken and forgotten toys, obsolete educational materials, and many other objects whose original utility has faded are the fodder for his work. Joe tries to see the possibilities inherent in the old forms and create new forms that tip the hat to the original but surprise and inspire in their new reincarnation. Renga Arts also represents a growing number of talented and inspired artists and vendors, both local and national, that create inspiring handmade works for our customers.

What makes your business stand out?

Along with actively producing fun and useful works, Renga Arts retail and gallery space, and online presence, serve as an inspirational depot of ideas for visitors. As important as selling product is to our business, it is also vital to us that we help spread the gospel of re-use for the greater good. Over the years, we've also advised and helped emerging local artists with design and marketing. Creative re-use is a good thing, but good design is an important aspect of creating viable products. We try to cultivate this within our community. We are also a strong supporter of the Maker movement. We have participated in Maker Faires since 2006 -- and have been awarded many Editor Choice awards for our efforts. In this way, we bring the message of creative re-use to a larger community.
