Mike Stone & Jawn McQuade
Tell us about your business. After teaching over 2000 DIY Workshops in San Francisco, we were constantly asked to create kits by our students as well as retailers like Williams-Sonoma and Fab.com We spent a year testing each kit, which are based on our most popular workshops. We strived to make them unique, unlike anything available in the market, and with the highest quality possible. Each MakersKit is tested hundreds of times in our live workshops until they are perfect. We just published our first book, "The MakerBoys" and are currently working on making a web series, featuring projects to make at home.
What makes your business stand out? Each MakersKit includes how-to video guides featuring us, Mike Stone and Jawn McQuade. It's like having a Maker Party right in your own living room, right when you're ready to make a project with us. We make learning a new skill fun and easy with clear, step-by-step instructions and fun tips. Join us in making Classic Cocktails, lip balm, a living herb terrarium, or even mustache wax!
What's the best business advice you've received? To focus on quality, instead of price. As a small start up it was tough competing against huge companies that were more established. We had two options, making products as cheap as possible or to make the highest quality, premium products which would set us apart. Our decision to create the highest quality kits paid off. Instead of trying to find retailers to carry our product on our own, they have found us. Companies like Fab.com & Google have sought us out as experts in our field, for what we love to do, for what we do best... making quality DIY kits we like to call, MakersKit.
