Tell us about your business.

I had the idea of re-using vintage post office boxes while working on a master bedroom project and trying to find a unique, cool and functional nightstand for a client. I was walking the Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena and found a set of brass vintage mailboxes. I was immediately inspired to turn them into a functional nightstand. After building a high quality frame, adding bells and whistles - functional self-closing drawers and a secret compartment opening with the original key/ combination lock, surrounded by a modern finish - MODERN POSTAL was born. I am proud to say all of my pieces are hand made in Los Angeles by local artisans and many of them are one of a kind. I have had a lot of fun searching for unique vintage post office boxes and expanding the line to include different designs and modern finishes based on clients' needs. And most of all I love that I am celebrating vintage Americana in a modern way. I can't wait to continue to expand my collection!

What makes your business stand out?

I am proud of the fact that the items I have designed in both my Modern Postal and Jacks Collections are unique. I am excited to be the first to turn vintage post office boxes into a functional, beautiful piece of furniture while highlighting their original beauty juxtaposed against modern finishes. While my Jacks collection is completely modern, there is a nod to the mid century era in their clean lined, simple design highlighted by being hand made from solid walnut. This is a "second act" career for me and I am determined to prove the saying that sometimes the greatest risks bring the greatest rewards.
