Tell us about your business.

After years as a costume designer, I was inspired by my children to create classic garments for playing, dancing and everything that children love to do. Using upcycled and recycled fabrics, Team Chipmunk garments have a soft and warm feel that's comfortable and functional. Since its founding in 2010, Team Chipmunk has had a booth at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn every year and has also shown at shows in Chicago, Nashville and Columbus. Our process is to find the best vintage fabrics and textiles from estate sales and other sources, then craft handmade garments inspired by their patterns, colors and textures.

What makes your business stand out?

Since I started designing clothes and costumes twenty years ago, my eye for texture, pattern and color has guided me to create complex pairings and unique combinations. By gathering a diverse group of local artisans to sew & stitch upcycled textiles, Team Chipmunk is supporting sustainability both in the environment and the local economy.

What's the best business advice you've received?

My mentors in costume design, especially during my work on the Tony-award winning "Avenue Q", taught me to take risks and work hard to make a personal vision come to life. That's what I try to do with Team Chipmunk.
