Tell us about your business.

As a 12-time bridesmaid, I know a thing or two about bridesmaid gifts! Doie Lounge was born, in part, from the idea that these glamorous, comfortable robes make the perfect gift for a bride to give to her maids. Each robe is made from the highest quality, earth-friendly fabrics, and is produced in Los Angeles, CA. Doie is named after my grandmother, who even in her 90s was always impeccably dressed, glamorous, and had an enviable confidence — a true style icon. I also draw inspiration from nature as well as all things Japanese. After moving to New York City in 2002 to attend the Parsons School of Design, and gaining a few years of corporate experience, I decided to go out on my own and create Doie Designs (a full fashion line) in 2005. Doie Lounge was created in 2010 based on the same principles as Doie Designs, but focuses solely on robes. The future for Doie Lounge looks bright—I hope to add more eco-luxe lounging pieces that make women feel glamorous, beautiful and comfortable.

What makes your business stand out?

Although everything is done online, there is a very human element to my business. I am always available for consulting and will help each bride craft the vision that she has in mind—even if it is something that is currently not available on the site (for example mixing the trim of one robe with the color of another). I truly care about making sure that each person has the best experience possible when ordering from Doie Lounge. I also follow up after their wedding to make sure that everything went well and offer to switch out sizes or colors if they were not right. I genuinely love working with each bride and I’ll go “above and beyond” to help make her vision a reality.

What's the best business advice you've received?

The best advice that I have received is to just go for it and dream big. The worst someone can say is “no.” Entering this contest is doing just that!
