Frangipani Body Products
American Made Since 2009
As I waited for a massage at a local spa, I looked through a book of skin care recipes and was shocked! Could this be the answer to my life long battle with sensitive skin, acne and Rosacea? I played around with some recipes (and made some really bad lotion in the process) and started using them. Soon, a friend commented about how great I looked and said she wanted to try them. She called a week later to say, "You have to sell this!" It sounded crazy to me at the time but the more I thought about it, the more I wondered if that would really be possible. I started framing the business and figuring out what products I would offer. When I was laid off from my IT career just a few months later, I knew it was a sign to take the leap. Frangipani is 4 years old, sold in 20 natural food stores in the Midwest, and is growing more every day.
What makes your business unique?I think the growth of my business is unique. People are generally surprised that Frangipani has gotten as far as it has without any business loans or investment. I have managed all growth on my own as the business has been able to sustain it. There seems to be a tendency to want to rush a business into "overnight success" and I have never been interested in that concept. I still make every product by hand and have converted half my house to accommodate the business. I could have moved production to a rented space but why not keep it in my house for as long as that is reasonable? I take each growth step very seriously. Because it is my future, I want Frangipani to grow and keep me company for a long time. With this money, I hope to secure distributorship, the next phase of Frangipani's growth.
What's the best business advice you've received?Early on, I thought I needed to handle the creation of my website and all the technology items related to the business. When I was frustrated and overwhelmed by trying to create and make the actual products and do everything else, a trusted friend gave me some great advice. He told me my main focus should always be on the products and leave the rest to the experts. I did and have never forgotten to always put the products' quality first.
