Tell us about your business. After working as a residential architect for 20 years, I discovered the magic of getting lost in clay when I took my first Ceramics class. Going from the feel of the computer mouse in my hand to that of wet clay was zen-like. I couldn't get enough of it. And when I found I could literally "draw" the ideas in my head onto the clay, I was home. I started off just making tiles with landscapes drawn on and glazed. Most of these images came from photographing the beautiful environment around me as I took daily walks with my dog. But then I moved on to making little houses, and then drawing landscapes onto them. From there I've expanded on to textured planters and tabletop mobiles inspired by Mid Century Modern design. Every day it's exciting to wake up and get into the studio to see what evolves. I see my business "Design Paws" growing as my product offerings expand into a greater number of forms and volume.
What makes your business stand out?I feel what Design Paws offers is true one of a kind ceramic art. Whether it be a simple hand designed tile in the Craftsman style, a ceramic sculpture, or a planter that is functional, artistic, and lovely to touch, Design Paws offers beautiful ceramic pieces that I believe one would want to collect.
