Tell us about your business.

I earned my BFA in 2008 from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a concentration in small metals. After school i was fortunate to work with many prominent jewelers where I refined my skills and became eager to launch my own line. In 2011, I finally launched Lauren Blais Jewelry. I creates hand-crafted jewelry inspired by Victorian mourning jewelry with a modern and edgy twist using both traditional and alternative metalsmithing techniques. My pieces are dark, deft and delicate constructions of sterling silver etched with antique wallpaper patterns and accented with the highest quality natural gemstones, raw minerals and exotic leathers. I use recycled metals, ethically sourced stones and remnants of leather to create new and unique pieces of wearable art. I would love the opportunity to expand my business and allow Lauren Blais to become accessible in boutiques and galleries world-wide.

What makes your business stand out?

My business is unique because I draw from a very romantic and complicated period in history. I pull from motifs and ideas within the Victorian Era but work to modernize them through materials.

What's the best business advice you've received?

The best business advice I was ever given was to have confidence. It is essential when running a business that involves your art that you fully believe in yourself and what you are putting out to the world. A fellow more seasoned jeweler also told me once that you cannot be afraid of a little debt.....
