We take real flowers, petals, leaves and butterflies and make them into one-of-a-kind jewelry. No butterflies are harmed in the process.

Tell us about your business.

We work only with Mother Nature’s ingredients. Butterflies are sourced through licensed brokers, and majority come from small family owned farms dedicated to rainforest preservation. The flowers and leaves are preserved to maintain their beauty. Some flowers are cold pressed, while others may like heat treatment for best results. After hundreds of hours of experimentation and thousands of flowers, the "petalers" have developed a proprietary method of preservation, that includes UV protection, and application of a resin that hardens into a shiny finish. The resulting jewelry pieces are very light-weight, very sturdy, and the natural colors are not enhanced in any artificial way. Each piece is hand crafted by us in S. California, without any machines, or mass-production. Each of these natural works of wearable nature art will set the wearer apart from the crowd.

What makes your business stand out?

We are a home-grown, family affair - the whole flower-power obsession started out many years ago with identical twins, Alanna and Gennelle Dedek, who were twelve years old at the time. They liked to press flowers –for cards etc. One day a lightbulb went off: Two matched flowers, what excellent earrings these would make! And the kitchen projects took on a focused approach, as the girls applied various methods to see what would work to preserve the flowers. Soon, the girls were sporting their own flower earrings. Friends started asking for their own earrings and pendants. Someone stopped them on the street to ask where they bought them. Mom agreed to help with a website, and next thing you know, we have added butterflies to the mix and are selling in over 100 retail locations across the USA and Canada. The venture has outgrown our early after school efforts – the girls are graduating from CSULA in 2014, with degrees in Civil Engineering, heading off to grad school.
