Food,

Tell us about your business.

Dean Andrews, and his wife and business partner, Lynn Easton have always been entrepreneurs. Dean's experience is in the hospitality industry, as the former senior operating officer for Orient-Express Hotels. Lynn, as founder of Easton Events has built one of the East Coast’s leading event planning and design companies. Lynn and Dean knew their next step would be a collaboration. They wanted to create a winery where guests “could come home” --- experience a glass of estate grown Sauvignon Blanc, or our Petit Manseng, with a seasonal salad, come home to friendly faces, to an afternoon passing time with family and friends. Whatever it is, they wanted to create a premier event venue where guests “could come home.” For us, that is our Pippin Hill. It’s a smile, a laugh, an experience. At Pippin Hill, the team aim's to satisfy – from taste buds to visual aesthetics, it is evident that heart and soul went into this business.

What makes your business stand out?

Our Vineyard is nestled within the natural beauty and authentic setting of the Blue Ridge Mountains just outside of Charlottesville, VA. A maturing, 2nd year and blossoming, literally, Vineyard – the proprietors are dedicated to superior products and service that truly makes Pippin Hill a stand-out operation. At Pippin Hill, it’s more than a stunning backdrop, it is our custom crush wines and locally sourced seasonal fare. Our Petit Manseng is a classic dessert style wine, with balanced acidity and a range of tropical fruit and honey flavors. To concentrate the flavors, the grapes were aged, and partially dried in a former, traditional tobacco barn. That imparts a unique quality to the wine. Fermented in stainless and French oak barrels, it has a complex and soft balanced taste. It’s the ideal drink to wash down a hunk of chocolate cake or to finish off a bite into a fresh strawberry. Or, sipped on solo, it’s the perfect aperitif.

What's the best business advice you've received?

Leverage your skills, and be willing to take on new ventures after thoughtful research. Life and new experiences are often a blatant act of imagination.
