Tell us about your business. The vision and passion behind Ann-Made's line of jewelry is Ann Skydell Harmon, a former special education art teacher. She set out to design a unique and chic product to promote recycling while being a responsible member of the community. Everything is done with that goal in mind. We work with non-profit groups to obtain our tabs, paying substantially more than the aluminum recycler, our packaging is printed on 100% recycled paper using clean but used cardboard to support it. Ann-Made's shipping materials are all eco-friendly. Ann's team of assistants are a talented group of women who are local to the studio and all work from their homes. Donations are made on a regular basis to social and environmental causes to assist them in all the good they do. The idea for the jewelry had its beginnings as a potential lesson plan for Ann's troubled students but has since evolved to juried art shows to now serving over 300 galleries, gift shops, museums and nature centers in the USA and abroad.
What makes your business stand out?Ann-Made soda can tab jewelry has raised the bar on upcycled design. Not only have we repurposed something very ordinary but have created something of beauty that is a joy to own and share. While doing that we have been sure to be the "real deal" as far as our interactions with all of our vendors, suppliers, employees and most especially, our customers. We are truly blessed to have been involved with such an incredible group of people since Ann-Made's inception 6 years ago.
What's the best business advice you've received?I know it sounds corny, but to be true to yourself. When you follow your inner voice, only good can be had. That has surely happened to us here at Ann-Made.
