Tell us about your business. My inspiration started with my brother-in-law's love of bears. I decided to build a life-sized standing grizzly bear topiary for his front yard. A month later when a chance discussion with a garden professional pointed me toward smaller indoor topiaries, Villa Topiary began. The world of unlimited creativity is what drives me. Everyday life inspires me to find things to cover with moss. Trial and error and hours of searching for new ideas make up each topiary. Preserved moss, natural sticks and bark are used as well as faux fruit and UV resistant boxwood. My goal is to open a brick and mortar business then add an extensive online selection. My plan is to have Villa Topiary continue to create patent-worthy innovations because--Villa Topiary is redefining topiary!
What makes your business stand out?Villa Topiary has created a "swap a top" topiary. Each top can exchange out for a different one but keep the same weather-resistant urn as a base. Villa Topiary has also created mossed silhouettes on curly willow branches. Each of these items are unique and have not been on the market before.
What's the best business advice you've received?"...why don't you make some smaller, indoor topiaries?" and "...give them something for free and ask for feedback. Good or bad, accept all feedback."
