Tell us about your business.

I am an artist, designer and lamp maker in BrattleboroVermont. I began working with clay as a teenager, and now some thirty years later my passion for ceramics is ten fold since the launch of my lamp design business in 2011. I began my art education while working on my MFA in ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art. There I was surrounded by the art and architecture of Cranbrook’s masters: Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, Bertoia, the design seed was planted. I graduated in ‘99 and embarked on a career in the arts as a studio artist and professor of art. People have enjoyed my installations but were discouraged they couldn't fit a 25' stack of blue eggs in their living room. It came to me, after constructing a crate to transport a sculpture cross country - the combination of wood, ceramics, framing and stacking would make a cool lamp, so Stephanie Nichols Studio was launched. I apply my minimalist sculpture aesthetic and interest in light, texture and multiples to my lamp creations

What makes your business stand out?

Every process is done by my hands: casting, carving, glazing, firing, sanding and finishing. Each is individually crafted and assembled in my Vermont studio. Every element can also be customized from glaze colors, wood stains and powder coatings.
