Tell us about your business.

In 2007, my husband & I took a cruise to the Bahamas. It was the first time we had taken a trip together due to my chronic illness. We had never been to such a beautiful place & wanted to bring an elemental symbol of this special place back with us. So we brought back some beach sand from Cabbage Beach, thinking this was the perfect thing to symbolize the place & our time there. We thought it would be fitting to be able to display this special sand in an hourglass, to really capture the moment & preserve the memories. When I couldn’t find a fillable hourglass, I decided to start making them. That is how Heirloom Hourglass was born! Today, couples all around the world are blending sands inside Heirloom Hourglasses during their Wedding Unity Sand Ceremony, as a symbol of their eternal love & inseparable bond in marriage. They are especially popular for Beach Weddings where couples take sand from where they stand as they take their vows. I am honored to be a small part of their big day!

What makes your business stand out?

Heirloom Hourglass is a very unique way to preserve the special memories from all of the milestone events in your lives that can never be recreated – Wedding, Honeymoon, Vow Renewal, Anniversaries, Birthdays, Holidays, and Graduations. Heirloom Hourglass gives the user access to the inside of the hourglass. You can fill it with beach sand from anywhere in the world or colored sand to match a birthstone, favorite color, or wedding colors. It is a very unique gift for any special occasion and the perfect item for use in a wedding unity sand ceremony. The hourglass is completed with two closures to allow the user to open and close to add or take out the contents whenever needed and there are many option for customization & personalization to make each hourglass one of a kind.

What's the best business advice you've received?

The best business advice I ever received is simply to take every opportunity to give back. At Heirloom Hourglass, we created a program we call Camaraderie, through which we make a small donation to a charitable or environmental organization with each hourglass we make. We give our customers the opportunity to tell us where they want the funds sent, since it is their purchase that makes it possible. This spirit of Camaraderie with our customers enhances their experience with Heirloom Hourglass, and helps create awareness for vitally important charitable and environmental organizations whose work touch many lives and make a difference for us all. Being fortunate enough to participate in people’s weddings through Heirloom Hourglass and being able to collaborate with our customers to support charities is truly a rewarding experience.
